Great quality for the price I paid May 18, 2008 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
I brought this comforter one week ago when it in a deep discount price ($37). I'm very pleased with its quality. Warm, soft, and the cover looks great. It says Min. 75% down, and I don't feel any feathers. I would like to buy another one, but the price is doubled when I check on the site again. There are several things for my concern. I do need a 300+ cotton sheet under it to make it more comfortable. (I used a silk comforter with 300 cotton duvet under it.) It maybe too warm for summer, especially for my desert house. The price is fair now (about $70).
FEATHER LOVERS!! THIS IS HEAVEN! May 14, 2008 I could not believe the price on this absolutely feather fetish fulfilling quilt. Even though its now too hot to use in in San Antonio in the summer-I test drove it anyway-its super soft super warm and super feeling! No regrets on this purchase!
FEATHERS!!!! This is NOT a 100% down comforter!!! May 13, 2008 9 out of 11 found this review helpful
You can NEVER trust Amazon's product descriptions. This is another case that proves the rule. The tag on this comforter clearly states that this comforter contains a minimum of 75% down. That leaves 25% FEATHERS.
DOWN is the gold standard. Down alternative comforters and down with feather comforters are NOT DOWN comforters.
When feathers are added to the fill, the comforter is not as light and fluffy. While the comforter may in fact contain 50 oz. fill, 50 ounces of 100% down versus 50 ounces of the combination of 75% down and 25% FEATHERS is a MATERIAL difference. Feathers make a scritchy noice and the comforter is flatter. This is probably why some of the reviewers have described this comforter as being "flat." 100% down comforters are pure luxury. When you add feathers to the mix, luxury is not part of the vocabulary--you just have a warm blanket.
Another reviewer suggested this comforter has a fill power of 700. This is NOT the case.
For the price, this may not be a bad buy if you KNOW you aren't receiving the "real" thing. The fabric is decent and it will be a warm "blanket."
seems great.... May 11, 2008 I ordered one of these for a wedding gift and was very pleased with the quality and appearance. However, there was no manufacturers card with the info about the product. I was afraid giving this as a gift, it would kind of look like I had pulled one out of my closet and wrapped it, so I called customer service and explained it. There is a pocket in the bag for the card but the card either was removed or had been missed. The customer service person agreed and told me to send it back, and they would send out another one. I ordered a second one at that time for another gift, and both the replacement and the second one I ordered, again, came with no card!! I called customer service and they said none of them had them!! I was dissapointed to find that out because as I said it's a little difficult to give a gift with no information on it. I am going to have my daughter make a couple of cards using the info on line, but I have to wonder why the Blue Ridge company would not want their information to be with these comforters. I find that a little disturbing. When I tried to contact them thru their website, there is a warning that entering thier webpage could damage your computer!! Strange.
Light and airy but smells May 8, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I got the king size for $56 from here, but it's odd that it's barely larger than my queen size matress, I mean barely. Secondly, when I removed the plastic around it, it the comforter smelled like a sweaty gym sock. Certainly wasn't very pleasant experience. I'm too am unsure of the 50 oz of down since it seems very light, but it does have a good texture and feel to it. Since it's been laundered the smell disappeared.
