Better than most for a picky head and neck... September 6, 2008 Ok, so I've got a pretty picky head and neck. I've tried memory foam, latex, air pillows, you name it. I always end up with a stiff neck in the morning. There are generally three areas I look at in a good pillow. Support, suppleness and temperature.
Support: Unbeatable. This thing really holds you and cradles the head right with a sort of bolster roll side under the neck and soft verticle bar rolls under the head. Elevates the head to just the right level to keep it aligned with the spine.
Suppleness: Here's the hard part, no pun intended. A pillow should both support, but also move (like we do in our sleep) and mold accordingly. The support never gives out, but once your head is positioned on this pillow the beads inside become firm, kind of hard and not very mobile. Turning over in your sleep isn't easy. The beads don't want to squish to the other side so I usually end up waking up briefly, fluffing, and going back to sleep just to turn. A serious design flaw.
Temperature: With the stupid cover this pillow is terrible. When will manufacturers learn that velour is hot! The added elasticity is a good idea, but this ruins the temp. Solution? Take the case off, add your own. Ahhhh.... now that's nice.
All and all I haven't found anything better than good memory foam, but it is SO supple that I need something much thicker than anything that is made otherwise my neck is kinked to the side I'm sleeping on. I'm 6'2 with very broad shoulders, so this makes for trouble.
My idea of the PERFECT pillow? Take one of those latex foam air pillows, place a contoured memory foam pillow over it and place the two in a fitted lycra case to hold them together in the night!
Wonderful!! September 2, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I was a little sceptical about ordering this pillow, because I needed a better pillow to sleep on, and you never know what your getting when you order online. I can honestly say that this pillow is wonderful. Like the other review, I recommend that a person sleeps with this pillow without the special cover that comes with it. The special cover makes the pillow too hard. Now, if you like firm pillows (and some people do) then use it by all means. I have just found satisfaction in putting my regular pillow cover over it and using it that way.
I have had better sleep and have not had any more backaches in the morning when I wake up after using this pillow. The first night I slept on it I immediately felt a difference in my body the next morning when I woke up. The first minute or two, it takes a little getting use to when you are use to sleeping on the regular pillows. However, you won't regret purchasing this pillow!! Buy it and sleep on it for ONE night. Then decide. Most likely, you'll keep it. Like I did. Great product!
Filling keeps falling out! September 1, 2008 This pillow is really comfortable. I have had it for about two months, and I really like the supportive feel.
But... BEWARE! The microbead filling keeps falling out through the pillow seams. The little beads are so small that they are seeping through the holes where the pillow is stitched together and they are all over everything! I have repaired two holes in the seams already trying to keep the little buggers contained in the pillow, but it's no use. I am going to be forced to throw this pillow away. I'm tired of getting out the vacuum cleaner to pick up after my pillow every morning.
Too Hard for Sleep August 28, 2008 I bought one of these for myself and my husband for Christmas. After a mix up with the order and waiting forever to get them we only used them maybe a month off and on. They were to firm and hard and made our necks hurt worse because they were so high. Some reviews said you had to give it time to get use to the difference, but I found myself reaching for my "old" pillow in the middle of the night and using this one between my knees. I even tried taking the pillow case it comes with off and using a standard pillow case...what a mess, I ended up with beads throughout the bed. My husband who likes a firmer pillow could not use it either and now both are in a spare drawer in storage.
not good for my neck! August 26, 2008 The first week I slept on it, it wasn't too bad but than after a while the beads seemed to shift more away from my neck not supporting it as much as I needed. I will be trying to return this, it's not worth the money!
