Great mini video camera January 9, 2009 D. Sherry (Smithfield, VA United States) Within 5 minutes of taking the Mino HD out of the box was using it to shoot video. Just plug it into a USB port and you're able to view, edit, or share the videos. You can use any media editing software that you are comfortable using or I've found the installed software to be more than suitable to creat short video clips and movies. Its smaller than a pack of cigarettes and fits comfortably in a shirt pocket so that its ready for everyday use when the situation arises.
Locking up before I can even record anything! January 9, 2009 K. Kohler (Albany, NY) I got a defective unit. About 50% of the time it would turn on to a screen full of lines - user unable to see an image on the screen, or get any response when pressing record. Occasionally it would turn on fine, but freeze up as soon as record was pressed. At that point, it wouldn't turn off - had to let the battery die, then recharge and try again. In the few moments that I was able to record with it, the image stabilization was terrible (as others have commented). I also felt that it did a poor job of catching the "rapid action" of my toddler - it was like cartoon motion. I was playing the recordings back on a new HP machine, and even recordings made sitting still (camera operator and subject sitting still) looked "jerky". I also thought the sound was poor - I could hear my own commentary, but had trouble hearing anything said by the people on camera.
Very handy and convenient. January 9, 2009 C. Shih (Illinois) The Flip is so convenient to use that it's more practical than any camcorder I've ever owned. What is a camcorder good for if you can't have it when you need it. This Flip video is in my pocket all the time just like a cell phone. The picture quality is great for the price and size of the camara. The only thing I would add is have the camara be able to take a still photo rather than take a video and using the software to capture a still shot. Other wise it's an excellent gadget.
Another Easy Flip... but now in HD! January 8, 2009 Don Walton Jr. (Albuquerque, NM United States) I've previously owned the Flip Ultra and the standard def Flip Mino camcorders, and this is the best version yet. Slim body, better access to the flip up USB port, great battery life, VERY easy to use interface and design... and now in HD! The camera shoots in 720p, nice and clear, looks great on YouTube and the like. My technology-scared/scarred 60-year-old father even bought one when he saw how easy they were to use. My only complaint is the lack of manual focus controls. The auto-focus is well done and handles most situations with acceptable clarity, but detail shots can still be blurry. Overall, another winner from Flip!
Software a problem for 64-bit operating systems. January 8, 2009 Susan in AZ 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Although the Flip Mino HD camcorder seemed to work fine, the software would not install on my computer, which has a 64-bit operating system. Flip's online support stated as follows: "Because the Flip Video Program has been designed to work on the 32-bit systems, we cannot guarantee full functionality if used on a 64-bit system. At this time, we do not have information regarding the development of an application for the 64-bit systems." Without functioning software, the Flip Mino HD is useless, and I have returned it. A product that just came out a couple of months ago should be compatible with a computer that's only about six months old, but the Mino HD is not. Hopefully I'll have better luck with the Creative Vado HD.
